Westside Roasters

Where It All Begins

Our boutique farm and roasting shed is conveniently located on the WestSide of Arusha, Northern Tanzania where our shade grown arabica coffee is sustainably cultivated from the fertile volcanic soils in the foothills of Mount Meru, the second highest mountain in Tanzania.

Our single origin coffee beans are processed from selectively handpicked red ripe cherries that are pulped, washed, then sun-dried to enhance sweetness and stimulate flavors.

At WestSide Roasters, we have the perfect size roaster with the capacity to roast up to 6 kilos of green beans, produced primarily from our sustainably managed boutique farm, at any one time. This allows us to produce excellent, small batch specialty coffee that is outstanding in quality and freshness.

This combined with the expertise of our Master Roaster, with more than 25 years of experience in roasting, tasting and blending, provides the artistry needed for the perfect cup to satisfy
our consumer’s tastes.

The Coffee Experience

For coffee lovers or anyone who would like to experience the full coffee process from seedling all the way to the perfect cup, come and join one of our personalised coffee farm visits and coffee tastings, (cupping).

We take the time to explain the coffee processes as we walk through our boutique coffee farm and processing area. Depending on the season you may see coffee blooms, green coffee berries
or red coffee cherries. We finish up the visit at our coffee processing facility where you will engage in a ‘cupping’ before relaxing and enjoying our beautiful fresh coffees.

Meet Steve and Monica

Founders

Steve, an Electrician originally from Tasmania and Monica a Fitter/Turner, from remote Queensland, met in the Western Australian outback on a remote mine-site where they were working. Australians with an adventurous spirit, together they embarked on a life-changing journey when they moved to Ghana, West Africa in 1997. Drawn by the allure of new horizons, they found themselves immersed in the vibrant culture and dynamic landscape of the continent.
Initially working in the mining industry, Steve and Monica soon felt the call of entrepreneurship. After 16 years crossing from West to East Africa, up to the Middle East and back again, and with a new family addition, their son Cody, they settled in Tanzania, and transitioned from mining to private business. Having previously purchased acreage in an old established coffee farm nestled in the scenic surroundings of Arusha, Tanzania, they setup their newest adventure.
Monica and Steves vision extended beyond the boundaries of building a housing estate that seamlessly integrated into the natural beauty of the region. Inspired by their love for coffee and a desire to create a sustainable livelihood, they diversified their ventures. Alongside the housing estate, they reserved several acres of the old farm, and embarked on a new venture with the vision of cultivating the best coffee beans in the region, with no chemicals, herbicides, fungicides. This led to using imaginative and natural means to improve their land.
Their entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop there. Recognizing the potential of artisanal coffee, Steve and Monica launched WestSide Roasters, home to KoffeeKat coffee, a boutique coffee roasting business that captures the essence of Tanzanian coffee in every sip.
Through dedication, hard work, and a commitment to quality, KoffeeKat has flourished into a thriving business, serving locals and tourists alike with their exceptional personalized roasts. Their catchphrase of ‘Skilfully Roasted, Artfully Blended acts as a guide to them.
Today, Steve and Monica’s journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of following one’s passions and embracing the opportunities that life presents, wherever they may lead.
